According to sidereal Vedic calculations, the Sun and Moon will meet at approximately 25 to 26 degrees of Cancer at the Maximum Eclipse Time, around 17:46 Coordinated Universal Time August 12. This translates to Australian Eastern Standard Time, 3:46 AM Thursday August 13, 2023. It will fall in the early morning for the time zones of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Canberra, and Hobart, being 3:16 AM for Adelaide and Darwin, and 1:46 AM for Perth.
The highlight of this passage is that the eclipse will be completely invisible in all of Australia. The totality of the eclipse will travel along the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland and into the northern part of Spain and Portugal. By the time the eclipse reaches totality, it will be the deep of night across the entire Australian continent with the Sun well below the horizon. This is of particular interest in Vedic practice, since the Sutak Kaal, the period of restrictions prior to the eclipse, only applies to locations where the eclipse is visible.
